6 Secrets to Skyrocket Your Confidence

Confidence. There’s a fine line between confident and cocky. Everyone knows that guy who thinks wayyyyy too highly of himself. Nobody likes that guy. Don’t be that guy. But, we all want to be more confident, right? We feel better, we get more done, and quite frankly, we’re fun to be around.

But, how? It’s not like confidence grows on trees. At least, that’s what I thought. For the longest time, I figured that confident people are just born that way… and I wasn’t. I was wrong. I needed a change – and, after trying different life hacks (and failing a few times too), I found 6 things that would instantly make me more confident.

Level up with these 6 tips…

  1. Build A Better Wardrobe — As an ATA member, you know that great style doesn’t need to be expensive. Get your clothes tailored and stick to timeless staples. Walking out the door knowing you look great will instantly level-up your confidence. It’s confidence from the outside in.
  2. Fragrance — This is a touchy one. I plan to write an article all around fragrance. But, long story short is that smelling great helps a ton for my subconscious confidence. Pick a fragrance that you love (ask a few other people too so you know you’re on the right track), and with a few sprays, you’ll walk out in style. Don’t bathe in the stuff – a little goes a long way.
Also … Some people are allergic to fragrance – if that’s you, try going to a higher-end store (Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, etc) and tell them of your allergies. Ask to sample a few recommendations. Often, it’s the synthetics used in cheaper fragrances that are what do us in. My dad is super allergic to most fragrance. He hasn’t worn cologne in years because of it. I took him to Neiman Marcus while vacationing in Scottsdale and had him try a few scents by Creed. Sure enough – zero reaction. It’s worth a shot. But, be warned, the fragrance he was trying happened to be $425 for 100ml. I argue it’s worth it.
  3. Music — I’m a huge music fan. If I need to get in the zone, I have a playlist that will take me there (I have a playlist for just about everything). There’s something about a great song that gets you in the right mindset. Try listening to your favorite music to pump you up before going out.
  4.  Body Language — Science is still trying to figure some of this out, but I truly believe that the right body language can change our mindset. It works for me. I don’t know why, but it does. My wife is a trainer, and she does power-poses before every presentation and swears by it. Practice proper body language and watch how your confidence skyrockets. 5. Preparation — If I have an important meeting, presentation, or interview, I always outline (on paper) how I want it to go. I visualize what I’m going to say, how I’m going to say it, and what my body language will be. I outline my vision for the ideal meeting/presentation/interview and visualize my ideal outcome. It never goes exactly according to plan, but having a solid foundation drastically improves my confidence and my performance.
  6. Fitness — I’m no personal trainer, but I’ve found I’m always more confident after going to the gym. I notice on my off-days. There’s something about working out that makes me feel more confident. When we go regularly, we see results and begin to realize that we have control over what we look like. We get stronger and faster, and that does wonders for our confidence. It doesn’t happen overnight – but try working out 3-4 days per week for a month. You’ll notice the difference.
